End of week 2

Dear all,

We have come to the end of week 2. For this week, we focused on situational writing and the techniques of writing a good situational writing. We went through the format of email. Feedback given was that many of you are using your own words and information than sticking to what is given in the question and information. Remember that you cannot place your own information into situational writing. You have to follow the situational given to you strictly. Also, tenses errors are a huge problem. If the event has been completed and has taken place in the past, you have to use the past tense. Read first and ask yourself these questions before writing the words.

We moved on to composition writing and the planning stage. Failing to plan would mean planning to fail. Stick to what I have taught you in breaking down the composition first. Refer to my last post for a recap.

We will carrying out the STELLAR reading Unit 1 next week together with composition writing test and perhaps situational writing unit 2 if there is time. I do not want to rush but to go through with you thoroughly so that you can understand and apply. I will be collecting any questions in the question hat on Monday so do place your questions in the hat if you have any questions/difficulties understanding at any point.

Do take good care of your health. I have noticed a number of you getting sick and missing lessons. The festive season is coming and you do want to enjoy yourself over this period. Drink lots of water and rest up well. Study hard but also make time for family and resting.

Homework:

  • Journal writing "A terrifying moment in your life"
  • The reason behind doing this topic is to help you with your composition writing. One of the main issues is on the aspect of writing out and elaborating feelings in your composition which is greatly lacking is most average compositions. Thus, I want to you to focus on bringing the emotions and feelings out. This will aid you when we talk about our composition writing next week.
Don't forget to pick up the newspapers and read through the main headlines if you can. Log on to the news websites to also read the news. :) Reading is important for knowledge and learning.

Good weekend ahead everyone,
Sincerely,
Mr Nelson Ong
